Enough of national politics! Let’s drill down to the local level, Kent County. Many of the issues that we see coming out of Washington are repeated in our state and county. Each of us pays taxes at several different levels. The further up the food chain we go, our opportunities to have a voice in government operations lessens. That leaves the county level.

Our Kent County Treasurer, Peter MacGregor will speak on “Making Sense of Government and Taxes.” Is this asking him to tackle the impossible?

Invocation: Eric Nelson
Introduction: Lynn Afendoulis

Taxes

  1. “Taxes are what we pay for civilized society.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
  2. "A fine is a tax for doing something wrong. A tax is a fine for doing something right." -- Anonymous
  3. “Collecting more taxes than is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery.” – Calvin Coolidge
  4. "The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." – Ronald Reagan
  5. “Be thankful we’re not getting all the government we’re paying for.” -- Will Rogers
  6. “Dear IRS, I am writing to you to cancel my subscription. Please remove my name from your mailing list.” -- Snoopy
