Recent campus events have again drawn the attention of Americans to the political aspects of campus life. The politicization of the academy has both its defenders and detractors that highlight a central problem: we have two competing understandings of what the academy is for. What are the issues at stake, and what might be the best way to navigate these disagreements? What is the purpose of higher education? It surely is not the regurgitation of memorized facts. Should politicization of colleges be tolerated?

Our speaker is Dr. Jeff Polet. He will answer these questions as he tackles the topic of The Challenge and Promise of American Higher Education.
