Housing in America, except in most of San Francisco, is indoors with running water. While social reformers were quick to demand a house or apartment for everyone to live, serious sociologists began to understand that a nuance of housing required someone to do the repairs and upkeep on someone’s lean-to. In greater Grand Rapids people without the money and/or knowledge that have housing issues turn to Home Repair Services for greatly needed assistance. We have invited their Executive Director Joel Ruiter to tell us the “joys of the jolly consumer” when he/she hasn’t the faintest idea of what is wrong, or how to fix it, or how to pay for it. Yes, you may bring your yellow pencils and legal pads.
Invocator: Mr. Eric Nelson
Introducer: Mr. William Lewis
Principle: “When a man says he approves of something in principle, it means he hasn’t the slightest intention of putting it into practice.” BISMARCK
Modernization: “In my experience, if you have to keep the lavatory door shut by extending your left leg, its modern architecture.” Nancy Banks-Smith.
Architecture: “The art of how to waste space.” Philip Johnson
Please remember: Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11 for honoring military veterans who are people who have served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
