The call has been made to “defund” or “dismantle” the police departments of our country. The civilian unrest has included lootings, mayhem, arsons, shootings, muggings, and a myriad of acts of hooliganism. Many city charters, such as with Grand Rapids, require it fund the police budget. The City of Grand Rapids has taken what many consider to be a positive step by establishing an Oversight and Public Accountability (OPA) office. Following a nationwide search, Muskegon County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Brandon D. Davis, Esq. was selected as the director of our OPA office. Brandon brings a wealth of public service experience to this position. Most recently, Brandon served as the Senior Labor Relations Specialist for the City of Grand Rapids.
Prior to uniting with GR, Brandon was a noted trial attorney in Muskegon County handing serious felony cases. Brandon began his career in his hometown of Detroit, MI where he served as both a defense attorney and prosecutor. He holds certifications from Cornell University in Diversity and Inclusion and Strategic Human Resources Leadership. We expect to hear about the OPA, his new relationship with the both the Police and Fire Departments, and the Civilian Appeals Board.
