In the world of politics, certainly no federal agency has “taken it on the chin” more recently than the Department of Justice.  Not all of the people associated with the DOJ, including the FBI, deserve such abuse.  The US Attorney for the Western District of Michigan has proven himself to run a tight ship with his responsibility of the attorneys under his control and the jurisdiction under which he runs his office.  Our speaker is Andrew B. Birge, Esq., the US Attorney for the counties on this side of the State and the Upper Peninsula.  His job is subject to confirmation by the Senate.  We have invited him to tell us about his job and the potential issues he confronts, such as Indian affairs, bankruptcy, criminal and civil law involving his boss, the United States.  A great program to invite that relative, friend of relative (who has had all of the shots) to join you for this program.

Invocator:    Mr. Eric Nelson

Introducer:    James Booth Burr, Jr., Esq.

Government:  “In rivers and bad governments, the lightest things swim to the top.”  Benjamin Franklin

“Creative semantics is the key to contemporary government; it consists of talking in strange tongues lest the public learn the inevitable consequences early.”  George Will

“A government is the only known vessel that leaks from the top.”  James Reston
