The Breakfast Club is excited to bring back David DeBruyn, a former member and certainly a bonhomie.  He might still be a member if we changed our starting time to 11:30, either AM or PM.  Dave retired as managing Curator of the Chaffee Planetarium at the Grand Rapids Public Museum for 17 years, but maintains the title of Curator Emeritus.  You can read his GR Press “West Michigan Skies,” and he remains active in the Grand Rapids Amateur Astronomical Association, the group that operates the James C. Veen Observatory near Lowell.

Let's call the Presentation:  "The Great  Planetary Conjunction of December, 2020:  The Star of Bethlehem Revisited."  Summary: It is not an exact duplication of what many astronomers believe is a possible explanation for the mysterious "Star" in the Gospel According to Matthew.  We will be able to see this remarkable configuration in our sky during the third week of December, when Jupiter and Saturn will appear essentially to merge into a single object, and this is extraordinarily rare.  Dave will explain the circumstances that bring about this "Great Conjunction" (apparent close approaches of two or more planets to each other); where to look to see it; and how it relates in many ways to a similarly rare event that might explain the Star of Bethlehem.  A timely program for the Christmas season that coincides with a real celestial event.

Invocator:   Mr. Eric Nelson

Introducer:   James Booth Burr, Jr., Esq.

“The Star:  ”The planets Jupiter and Saturn will meet in Aquarius for the first time in 615 years.  Imagine having a student-teacher conference with your favorite teacher and your most, let’s say disliked, teacher.  That’s what this conjunction could be like for each and every one of us.  How can we handle an expansion and contraction at the same time?  This is a migraine headache in the stars!!  What happens when the giants of the Zodiac come together in off-the-wall Aquarius? As a collective we are asked to elevate our world into a state of love and to bring love into the world.”
