Movie theaters before (and during) the advent of television. Our senior table can even remember drive-in movies when not all of the action was on the screen. The name Loeks is synonymous with talking moving pictures in Michigan. We have invited John D. Loeks, who runs Loeks Theatre Companies, to tell us about his latest venture called Studio Park in the general area south of VanAndel Arena. A city within a city has been defined as “Restaurants. Shops. a Cinema. a Music Venue. Offices. Apartments, and much more. It's all here at Studio Park - smack dab in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids.” Yes, we expect you to bring a guest or two that can tell us about recent Academy Awards.
Invocator: Mr. Keith D. Vandercook
Introducer: James Booth Burr, Jr., Esq.
Movies:
(1) “It is my indignant opinion that ninety percent of the moving pictures exhibited in America are so vulgar, witless and dull that it is preposterous to write about them in any publication not intended to be read while chewing gum.” Wolcott Gibbs
(2) “There’s only one thing that can kill the movies and that’s education.” Will Rogers
Paraprosdokian: I used to be conceited, but now I am perfect.
From the Head Table: Have ye ever listened to some folks for a minute and thought … “Their cornbread ain’t done in the middle?”
