“A policeman’s lot is not a happy one.” One of the great songs from Gilbert & Sullivan’s wonderful “Pirates of Penzance.” Our guest speaker has had 32 years of police work at all levels. We welcome Chief of Police Eric Payne with extensive experience in the priority areas of safety, community policing, transparency, staffing and training. Although Chief Payne hails from Dowagiac, many Grand Rapids denizens consider him “home bred,” rather than brought in from the outside. No, the Chief will not fix your traffic tickets but will tell us what his plans are for Michigan’s (second) largest City. Don’t be afraid to bring that friend that belongs in the BC.
Invocator: Mr. Keith D. Vandercook.
Introducer: Carl E. VerBeek, Esq.
The Law: “The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread.” Anatole France
