Grand Rapids Neighborhoods are vital to the well-being of Southwestern Michigan, especially those neighborhoods that once were crime ridden, drug infested and had lost homes and buildings due to nuisance, neglect and urban sprawl.  One area has taken the proverbial bull by the horns and created a safe place to live and work. That area is Uptown Grand Rapids, a nonprofit whose mission is to grow and sustain four commercial-residential districts in southeast Grand Rapids: East Fulton, East Hills, Eastown and Wealthy Street.  We are pleased to welcome Ingrid Miller, the first executive for Uptown.  Where do the tax dollars come from, and what are her plans to make Uptown a great place to work and live?  It’s all happening before our eyes.  Know someone who lives in one of the neighborhoods? Why not invite them to our meeting.

      Invocator:    Mr. Keith D. Vandercook

Introducer:    James Booth Burr, Jr., Esq.

Neighbors:  “I was much distressed by next-door people who had twin babies and played the violin; but one of the twins died, and the other had eaten the fiddle – so all is peace.”  Edward Lear (English Limerickist and poet).

Paraprosdokian:   Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish

From the Head Table:  Vegetarian: Ancient tribal name for the village idiot who can’t hunt,  fish or light fires.
